Coastal Blue Landmark Pro on a Dutch Colonial in Milton
This Milton home is a Dutch Colonial with white clapboard, a broad gambrel roof, a shed dormer running across the front, and a bank of windows below. The gambrel puts most of the roof out where the street sees it, so the shingle color carries the whole front of the house.
We installed CertainTeed Landmark Pro in Coastal Blue. Coastal Blue is a deep blue-black blend that reads nearly black from the street with a cool blue cast up close. Against white walls it gives the Dutch Colonial a rich, dark cap with a little more depth and color than a straight black.
We tore the old roof off down to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and ran ice and water shield at the eaves and through the valleys before laying the field. The shed dormer was flashed into the front slope, new drip edge went on along the eaves and rakes, and the ridge was capped to match the coursing. A gambrel breaks at every rafter, so the steep and shallow pitches had to line up clean for the asphalt roof replacement to read right.
