Colonial Slate Landmark Pro on a Lakeville Gambrel
This home in Lakeville is a gambrel-roof Cape, often called a Dutch Colonial for the barn-shaped silhouette and two slope angles on each side of the roof. Dark wood siding, an arched green front door, and matching shutters give it real character. Two wall dormers sit flush with the siding on the steep lower slope, each finished with white trim that pops against the new CertainTeed Landmark Pro shingles.
We installed Landmark Pro in Colonial Slate, an asphalt architectural shingle in a blend of grays and soft earth tones that reads as quiet stone against the dark wood. The Colonial Slate name refers to the color blend, not the material, so the homeowner gets the slate look without the weight or cost of real slate tile. Harvey Slimline replacement windows went in at the same time. The narrow Slimline frames give you more glass area, which matters most upstairs where the wall-dormer openings handle the bulk of the light.
Gambrel roofs need careful detailing where the geometry changes. We ran ice and water shield along the slope-break between the steep lower and shallow upper sections, set step flashing along the wall-dormer cheeks where they meet the lower slope, and tied head flashing in where each dormer roof meets the upper gambrel. Bundling the roofing and window work into one project kept the flashing, trim, and shingle coursing aligned across the whole envelope.
