Driftwood Landmark Pro on a Cedar-Shingle Cape in Sandwich
This Cape Cod on Torrey Road wears weathered gray cedar shingles and a full-width covered porch, with three gable dormers stepping across the front slope. The roof had to tie all of that together. With three dormers and a porch roof feeding into the main slope, the lines matter more here than on a plain gable.
We went with CertainTeed Landmark Pro in Driftwood. It’s an asphalt architectural shingle, not real wood shake, and the gray-and-tan blend sits right at home against silvered cedar siding. Driftwood reads soft from the street instead of stark, which is what you want on a relaxed coastal Cape rather than a hard black or charcoal.
The dormers were the work. Each one gets its own step flashing where the dormer walls meet the field shingles, and we ran ice and water shield up from the eaves and into every dormer valley before a single course went down. The porch roof tie-in and the rear deck side got the same treatment. That edge and valley work is what keeps a multi-dormer asphalt roof replacement watertight through Cape winters.
