A Lakeville Farmhouse Gets Northgate Heather Blend
This property in Lakeville has serious presence. It’s a large, white farmhouse-style home with an attached two-car garage, a cupola sitting on top of the garage roofline, decorative star accents on the exterior, and a circular gravel driveway out front. The whole property has a country feel to it. There’s a lot of roof on this one, and every square foot is visible from the driveway.
We went with CertainTeed Northgate shingles in Heather Blend. The Northgate line is one of CertainTeed’s premium architectural shingles, thicker and heavier than a standard shingle, which gives it better wind and impact resistance. For a home this size, that extra durability is worth it. Heather Blend is a warm, multi-toned color with browns, tans, and soft grays running through it. Against the bright white siding, it creates a look that feels warm without being heavy.
A home like this has a busy roofline. Where the main house meets the garage, where the different roof planes cross, and around features like the cupola, there are a lot of transition points that need proper attention. The cupola is a nice detail that gives the garage section some personality, but it also means extra flashing and cutting work to keep everything weathertight. We took care to make sure every joint and seam was sealed the right way.
With white siding, you want a roof color that brings warmth without looking mismatched. Heather Blend does exactly that. The soft brown tones complement the white and give the roofline visual interest across all those different planes. When you stand back and take in the full property, the roof pulls everything together, and that’s the sign of a good color choice and a clean install.
