Indigo Market Square Siding on a Washington Street Greek Revival in New Bedford
This Washington Street home is a classic New Bedford Greek Revival: a tall, square two-and-a-half-story colonial with a front gable, corner pilasters, an entablature over the front door, and rows of evenly spaced double-hung windows. Granite steps and an iron rail lead up to the entry, and clipped shrubs run across the foundation. A house with this much trim and this many windows needs siding that holds a crisp line everywhere it meets white casing.
We installed Exterior Portfolio Market Square Double 4 vinyl siding in Indigo. Market Square is a clapboard profile with a low-gloss, true-to-wood finish, and Double 4 means a four-inch exposure that keeps the courses tight and historically correct on a 19th-century house like this. Indigo is a deep navy that does the work here: against bright white trim, corner boards, and window casings, the dark body makes every piece of trim pop, and it gives the old colonial a confident, modern presence without abandoning its period lines.
We ran a level starter course and worked up in full courses, keeping the exposure consistent so the lines stay true across the long walls. Every window, the corner pilasters, the door entablature, and the rake and frieze boards got clean cut-ins so the Indigo runs tight to the white trim with no gaps. On a tall colonial the cornerboards and the window surrounds are where the eye goes, so that is where the cut-in work has to be perfect.
