Moire Black Landmark Pro on a Cape in Milton
This Milton home is a white clapboard Cape with three gabled dormers across the front slope, sage-green shutters, a pedimented entry, and an attached garage. Foundation plantings and a brick walk line the front. The long front slope with its dormers is the dominant face of the house, so the shingle color sets the tone for the whole front.
We installed CertainTeed Landmark Pro in Moire Black. Moire Black is a true black with subtle tonal shifts rather than a flat paint-black. On a white Cape the black roof gives crisp, traditional contrast, and the variation in the granules keeps the broad slope from looking flat between the dormers.
We tore the old roof off down to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and ran ice and water shield at the eaves and through the valleys before laying the field. The dormer cheeks and the garage tie-in were flashed into the slopes, new drip edge went on along the eaves and rakes, and the ridge was capped to match the coursing. On a Cape the eave runs the full width, so it had to stay straight for the asphalt roof replacement to read right.
