Moire Black Landmark Pro on a Colonial in Lexington
This Lexington home is a two-story colonial set on a wooded neighborhood lot near conservation land and a pond. Seen from above, the roof reads as two long main planes with a brick chimney through the ridge, and it is the dominant surface on the house, so the shingle color defines the look from the street and from the air alike.
We installed CertainTeed Landmark Pro in Moire Black. Moire Black is a true black with subtle tonal shifts rather than a flat paint-black. On a traditional colonial the black cap is the classic New England look, and the slight variation in the granules keeps the long planes from reading as a solid block from overhead.
We tore the old roof off down to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and ran ice and water shield at the eaves and through the valleys before laying the field. The chimney was step-flashed into the slope, new drip edge went on along the eaves and rakes, and the ridge was capped to match the coursing. The aerial views show the payoff: clean, straight courses running the full length of both planes, which is what a well-run asphalt roof replacement should look like from above.
