This Woodbine Avenue home in Barrington is a newly built modern farmhouse: dark charcoal vertical and board-and-batten siding with crisp white trim, a covered front porch, and an attached two-car garage stepping down to the right. It sits up on a corner near the water, so it shows a lot of roof from the street, and the dark siding sets a high bar for the shingle to match.

We ran the roof down to the deck details: ice and water shield up from the eaves and through every valley, new drip edge along the eaves and rakes, step flashing where the porch and garage roofs tie into the main walls, and ridge cap tied into the field coursing. A farmhouse with this many roof planes, the main gable, the porch, and the garage wing, lives on the valley and wall flashing, which is where a clean asphalt roof replacement holds up.
