Moire Black NorthGate on a Three-Story Colonial in Canton
This Canton property is a large three-story white clapboard colonial with a wraparound farmer’s porch, a gable-and-wing roofline, and a brick chimney, set on a corner lot. It stands tall with a lot of roof in view from every side, so the shingle color carries the whole building.
We installed CertainTeed Landmark NorthGate in Moire Black. NorthGate is an SBS-modified, cold-weather-rated shingle built to stay flexible through hard winters, and Moire Black is a true black with subtle tonal movement. On a big white colonial the black roof gives crisp, classic contrast and a clean, defined top edge all the way around.
We tore the old roof off down to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and ran ice and water shield at the eaves and through the valleys before laying the field. The chimney was step-flashed into the slope, each gable and wing tie-in was flashed, new drip edge went on along the eaves and rakes, and the ridges were capped to match the coursing. On a building this size the eave and ridge lines run long, so they had to stay straight for the asphalt roof replacement to look clean.
