Moire Black NorthGate Roof and Black Gutters on a Colonial in Franklin
This Franklin home is a two-story colonial with white clapboard, black shutters, a symmetrical center-entry front, and a wooded backdrop. The two main roof planes carry the front, so the shingle color reads strongly against the white walls, and the gutter color frames the eave line below it.
We installed CertainTeed Landmark NorthGate in Moire Black and ran new black seamless gutters to match. NorthGate is an SBS-modified, cold-weather-rated shingle built to stay flexible through hard winters, and Moire Black is a true black with subtle tonal movement. On a white colonial the black roof and black gutters give crisp, continuous contrast and a clean, finished edge all the way around the house.
We tore the old roof off down to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and ran ice and water shield at the eaves and through the valleys before laying the field. New drip edge went on along the eaves and rakes, the ridge was capped to match the coursing, and new black gutters and downspouts were hung to carry water off the new roof. Against white siding every line shows, so the eaves, ridge, and gutter runs had to stay straight for the asphalt roof replacement to look clean.
