Pewter NorthGate on a Colonial in Pembroke
This Pembroke home is a two-story colonial with tan clapboard, a covered farmer’s porch across the front, and a brick chimney, set on a deep lawn. The two main roof planes carry the front, so the shingle color reads directly against the warm tan walls.
We installed CertainTeed Landmark NorthGate in Pewter. NorthGate is an SBS-modified, cold-weather-rated shingle, and Pewter is a mid-gray blend with cool tonal movement. Against tan clapboard the gray roof keeps the colonial grounded and traditional and holds a clean line above the porch without competing with the wall color.
We tore the old roof off down to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and ran ice and water shield at the eaves and through the valleys before laying the field. The porch roof and the chimney were flashed into the main slopes, new drip edge went on along the eaves and rakes, and the ridge was capped to match the coursing. On a colonial the eave and ridge lines are what the eye checks first, so that is where the asphalt roof replacement had to stay true.
