Pewterwood Landmark Pro on a Cottage in Falmouth
This single-story cottage on Mayflower Street is a tidy Cape footprint: gray cedar shingles, a white front door, and a low-pitch gable roof. Nothing fancy, which is its own kind of challenge. On a small, low-slope roof every course is visible from the street, so there’s nowhere to hide a sloppy line.
We went with CertainTeed Landmark Pro in Pewterwood, the same asphalt architectural shingle and gray-pewter blend we ran on a larger coastal home over on Metoxit Road. On this cottage the soft gray sits quietly against the cedar siding and keeps the whole place looking crisp without trying too hard.
A low-pitch roof sheds water slower, so the underlayment work matters more. We ran ice and water shield up from the eaves further than a steep roof would need, set new drip edge along the eaves and rakes, and kept the courses dead straight across the short runs. That underlayment coverage is the quiet part of an asphalt roof replacement that pays off when the wind drives rain up the slope.
