Pewterwood Landmark Pro on a Colonial in Reading
This Reading home is a large two-and-a-half-story colonial with pale yellow clapboard, black shutters, a center-chimney roofline, and a columned side porch stepping off one end. A brick walk curves across a deep, manicured lawn, and out back a raised deck looks over hydrangeas and stone-paver paths. With this much symmetrical roof facing the street, the shingle color sets the tone for the whole facade.
We installed CertainTeed Landmark Pro in Pewterwood. Pewterwood is a warm gray blend with soft brown undertones rather than a flat slate gray. Against pale yellow clapboard and black shutters the warm gray roof keeps the colonial from going cold and monochrome and ties the roof to the wood tones on the porch and trim.
We tore the old roof off down to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and ran ice and water shield at the eaves and through the valleys before laying the field. The chimney and the porch and ell tie-ins were flashed into the main slopes, new drip edge went on along the eaves and rakes, and the ridges were capped to match the coursing. On a symmetrical colonial the eave and ridge lines are what the eye checks first, so that is where the asphalt roof replacement had to stay true.
