Resawn Shake Landmark Pro on a Raised Ranch in Billerica
This Billerica home is a raised ranch with tan clapboard, black shutters, and a gabled two-story wing stepping off the main block. A brick chimney rises off the ridge and clipped shrubs bank the foundation on a wooded lot. Between the main house and the wing there is a lot of roof in view from the street and from above, and the planes read together.
We installed CertainTeed Landmark Pro in Resawn Shake. Resawn Shake is a brown blend with lighter and darker granules that reads like split cedar shake rather than a flat brown. Over tan walls the warm shake roof keeps the house in a natural, earthy range and gives the mix of gables a single consistent cap.
We tore the old roof off down to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and ran ice and water shield at the eaves and through the valleys before laying the field. The chimney and the wing tie-in were flashed into the main slopes, new drip edge went on along the eaves and rakes, and the ridges were capped to match the coursing. With several gables meeting at different heights, the valleys and tie-ins are where a roof like this is won, so those were detailed tight for the asphalt roof replacement.
