Resawn Shake Roof and Everlast Siding on a Scituate Ranch
This Scituate home is a single-story ranch set back on a wooded lot with foundation shrubs across the front and a brick chimney off one end. On a ranch the long horizontal lines of the siding and the single main roof plane define the whole look, so both were replaced together in one job.
We re-sided the house in Everlast composite clapboard in CedarTouch Slate, a low-maintenance board with a color-through finish and a crisp cedar-grain reveal that will not need paint. We roofed it in CertainTeed Landmark Pro in Resawn Shake, a brown blend with lighter and darker granules that reads like split cedar shake. The warm shake roof over the slate-gray siding keeps the house from going flat and ties the two new surfaces together.
For the roof we tore off down to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and ran ice and water shield at the eaves and valleys before laying the field, then set new drip edge, flashed the chimney, and capped the ridge. For the siding we ran new house wrap, trimmed the windows and corners, and lapped the boards to a consistent reveal. The combined asphalt roof replacement and siding replacement were detailed so the eave, corner, and trim lines all stay straight across the front.
